折り紙で作るぽち袋 In Japan, children receive money, called "Otoshidama,"  enclosed money in a small decorated Mini Envelope from parents and relatives on New year's day. 日本では、子どもたちがお正月に両親、祖父母、親戚から 「お年玉」と呼ばれるお金の入った封筒をもらう習慣があります。   Originally, rounded Mochi (rice cake) was used as Otoshidama on new year's day. People handed out rounded Mochi (rice cake) after offering them for God, which became the origin of "Otoshidama" custom in Japan.   March 3rd is "Hina Matsuri (Girls' Day, Doll's Day)", when people pray for the happiness and healthy growth of girls. Another name of Hina Matsuri (Girls' Day, Doll's Day) is called "Momo no Sekku (Blooming season of peach tree)" because peach trees usually start blooming in early March.Originally, this custom was practiced to cleanse oneself spiritually.However, in the present day, March 3rd has become Girls' Day.
